Tropical Rains

Poetry | Ushairi

Ntuntunu image

”Hurricane Sylvia”, he called me;
Said I suck people in
Scratch them up
Then spit them out.
Yet here I am —
Lightning, thunder, and rainbows
Giving rise to new forests;
You will not reduce me to a storm
Simply because
The trees I make grow
Are too tall for you to climb.
